Is it OK to wear an outfit for the whole day if you're also going to wear it to a job interview later on?

A few months ago, I put this outfit together for a job interview in the evening:

I also had my hair styled like this:

I liked the outfit so much that I wanted to wear it to school for the day, but my mother didn’t allow it. We got into an argument which resolved itself when I offered to wear it the next day instead. But it still left a sour taste in my mouth – does she not trust me to keep myself clean? And I’m 20 years old, so I think I’m capable of making decisions for myself. To top it all off, I had to do my hair all over again the next morning.

Is it a bad idea to wear an outfit to school if you’re going to have it on for an interview that same night?

It general, yes. The problem isn’t so much staining it or spilling something as lint and wrinkles which look unpolished and unprofessional. There’s also the problem of sweat stains. In general, when you wear job interview clothes all day they look "lived in" which is not a good look for the interview. Your mother should have explained herself, but she was operating on general wisdom and desired for you to look your best so you would have a better chance landing the job.
