Is Obamacare going to allow me to buy insurance if I am self employed?

Asked by: AdityaJoshi 690 views Insurance , , , ,

I would like to start a business but I am afraid to get dropped by insurance, and therefore am not quitting my corporate slave job. Will Obamacare give me this freedom?

Yes, it will give you that option and you will be able to buy a policy that is actually affordable. But you might want to hold on to your corporate job until we know who is going to be the next president. Romney plans to dismantle the Universal Health Care Act… and the idiot might just win.

You can buy insurance now, through an individual plan. There are also plenty of group plans that you are probably eligible for group plans through such as business organizations you are a member of, maybe your university’s alumni association, etc. Here the insurance page for the: National Association of Self-Employed benefits page:http://www.nase.org/BenefitsHome.aspxYou are also eligible for COBRA for 18 months. When you have 2 or 3 employees (including you), depending on the state, you are eligible to create your own small group insurance plan. Once you have insurance the insurance companies don’t drop you when you have claims like with car and homeowners insurance companies. What Obamacare does and what’s already available in many states, California, MA, Hawaii and others, is provide what’s called a "high risk" pool. It means if you have a major pre-existing condition you can’t be turned down for coverage. Instead you will be placed in the high risk pool coverage plan.

Sort of. Obamacare does guarantee that you will be allowed to buy insurance, starting in 2014, if you are at least 19 years old and Obamacare has not yet been repealed. However, it does not guarantee that you will be able to afford to buy it. The price is not guaranteed to be affordable, and Obamacare does not guarantee that your business will be successful enough for you to make enough money to afford to pay for health insurance. Also, Romney has stated that he will try to have Obamacare repealed if he is elected, so Obamacare might not be doing anything in 2014, because it might not still exist.

Honey, Obamacare will REQUIRE to you buy insurance when you’re self employed. As far as "allow" you, you’re allowed NOW! Go buy it! Obamacare doesn’t give you any EXTRA freedome – it’s actually a SHACKLE, requiring you to do something. Worse, if your current employer decides to drop the corporate health plan (Obamacare encourages that, financially, by making it considerably cheaper to NOT offer employees health care), you’ll STILL be required to go out and buy it. The worst insult, is that "Obamacare compliant" health insurance is anywhere from noticably to drastically more expensive – oh, and you’ll be REQUIRED to buy it.

Obamacare sets up statewide insurance exchanges which will sell you a policy and you can choose the coverage according to price. You will still get a tax credit subsidy if your income is under $88K and that may be used to pay premiums. Obamacare individual mandate means everyone must be insured unless exempt, already insured or in a government program.

Not sure what you mean by "afraid to get dropped by insurance"? Do you mean you think you won’t qualify medically?A note to "A Hunch" ? the NASE is just one notch above a scam and have had sanctions and fines levied against them by the insurance regulator of certain states, so you may not want to promote them.

Are you for real? Nothing in ANY laws prevent you from buying insurance.
