How long can I have a cartilage piercing out?

Asked by: Sweet Peanuts 445 views Skin & Body , , , , ,

I got it on August 3 2013 and I do taekwondo. There are upcoming tournaments in late September and early October. I can keep it in for poomese but can’t for sparring. There are usually 2 rounds either 1.5 or 2.5 minutes long. With a 30second-1minute break between the 2 matches. I could put it back in during the break and take it out before I enter the ring again.
Could I compete without it closing?

Not only could it close but you could also cause a serious infection if you try to put it back in. Helix piercings take 6-12 months to heal completely and should not be removed until then, did your piercer not tell you that? If you can wear a retainer have a piercer put in a glass retainer but if you can’t wear jewelry at all then your best bet would be to take it out and let it heal, cleaning the wound by doing sea salt soaks twice a day until it is closed.

Honestly, no. It’s a pretty fast healing piercing. I took mine out for 5 minutes 2 months after I got it pierced and it completely healed. It might be best to put a clear retainer in it.
