Will my sexuality affect my career choice?

Asked by: Puppy Princess 259 views Other - Beauty & Style , , ,

Okay so I’m 18 years old and I’m in a really low place at the moment, the reason I’ve asked this question in this category as well as the lesbian/gay category is that I wanted people from the beauty field to give me honest answers… Back to my story anyway, I’m 18 and have just come out as bisexual, I have been with my gf secretly for two and a half years, I’ve lost family and friends and I’m struggling to cope, it has come as such a shock to people because I’m really girly girl and not the usual stereotypical lesbian/bisexual girl. I’ve just applied for beauty in college as I aspire to be a beautician in my future. My passion for keeping up with the latest fashion and trends and for making people feel good about themselves is all I have left :( I was just wondering with being a beautician and having to wax bikini lines and spray tan naked women, if my sexuality will stop me from getting into the industry? Please help x

It’s ridiculous that in 2013 this question arises. Your sexuality should have no bearing on your perceived suitability to get into any career. I was also sorry to read that you have lost your family due to your sexuality but I am not any kind of expert in advising people in this regard, so I am not going to try. There are help lines and websites out there to give guidance to people in your position.I am a straight man and I go to a beauty therapist for waxing and the attractiveness physically and personality-wise of the the therapist has not escaped my attention. However, despite the fact that we get on well as two people, she is the beautician and I am the client. What’s more, we are each happily married. End of story! And so it should be in such a relationship.Just go for it. It’s a great career to go into because as you rightly said yourself, you spend all day making people feel good about themselves. Might I suggest that you make use of the services of a beautician yourself because as you also said, you are in a low place at the moment and need a pick-up.

No.If you love doing what you do, if you love fashion and makeup, if your girly, why does your sexual preference matter? You love doing what you do, and they can’t deny you that because you are bi! c: good luck

No it won’t. Remember – it gets better once you go through college, and are self-dependent both financially and socially.

Can’t stop you from getting into just because of your sexuality , as long as you are being professional when doing it you’ll be fine ( might even get a few more customers because of it if they find out )

Nope. Straight male doctors/physicians have female patients. This is no different, so long as you’re all business so to speak.
